About the Event
Learn the Basics of Photography and Make Your Pictures Stand Out
Want to take better photographs and understand what makes an image interesting?
This Basics of Photography Workshop is designed to introduce participants to simple yet useful photography techniques that can help them approach everyday photography with greater confidence.
The session focuses on fundamental concepts such as framing, angles, interesting shots and other basic photography principles that can be useful across different occasions.
Whether you use a mobile phone camera or a DSLR, the workshop is about understanding how to look at a subject, compose an image and make your photographs more engaging.
You do not need to begin with complicated technical concepts. The focus is on learning the basics, understanding what you love about photography and exploring how small changes in the way you photograph something can make a difference.
It’s all about learning, experimenting and knowing more about what you love.
What Is the Basics of Photography Workshop?
The workshop is an introduction to the fundamentals of photography, designed for people who want to build a better understanding of taking photographs.
Photography is not only about having an advanced camera. The way you frame a subject, choose an angle and decide what to include in the image can significantly influence how the final photograph looks.
This session focuses on those essential foundations.
Participants can explore simple techniques that can be applied when taking photographs at:
Family occasions
Social gatherings
Travel experiences
Celebrations
Everyday moments
Outdoor activities
Personal photography projects
The idea is to make photography more accessible by focusing on practical basics.
Mobile Photography and DSLR Photography
One of the useful aspects of this workshop is that the concepts can apply to both mobile photography and DSLR photography.
You do not necessarily need an expensive camera to start thinking about photography differently.
A smartphone can be used to practise framing, composition and angles, while those using a DSLR can apply the same visual principles with additional camera controls.
The workshop focuses on the way you approach a photograph rather than limiting the learning experience to a particular type of camera.
Learn Framing
Framing is one of the fundamental elements of photography.
The way you position your subject within the image can change the entire visual impact of a photograph.
The workshop introduces participants to the basics of framing and encourages them to think about what belongs inside the frame and how the subject relates to the surrounding space.
Understanding framing can help you move beyond simply pointing a camera at something and pressing the shutter.
Explore Different Angles
The same subject can look very different depending on the angle from which it is photographed.
The workshop introduces participants to the importance of angles and how changing your position can influence the appearance and feel of an image.
Instead of always photographing a subject from eye level, participants can begin experimenting with different viewpoints and perspectives.
This simple approach can help create photographs that feel more visually interesting.
Discover Interesting Shots
The workshop also focuses on finding interesting shots.
An interesting photograph does not always require an extraordinary subject. Everyday scenes can become more engaging when you pay attention to perspective, composition and the details around you.
Participants can learn to look at familiar situations differently and identify opportunities for photographs that stand out.
The emphasis is on developing your visual awareness and learning to notice photographic possibilities around you.
Photography for Everyday Occasions
The techniques covered in the workshop are intended to be useful in everyday situations.
Whether you are attending a celebration, meeting friends, travelling or simply capturing moments around you, understanding basic photography principles can help you make more considered images.
Instead of relying entirely on automatic settings or randomly taking multiple photographs, the workshop encourages you to think about the image before capturing it.
Learn to See Before You Shoot
Photography is as much about seeing as it is about operating a camera.
Before taking a photograph, you can consider:
What is the main subject?
How should it be framed?
Which angle works best?
What is happening in the background?
Is there a more interesting perspective?
What makes this particular moment worth photographing?
The workshop introduces these kinds of basic considerations to help participants become more intentional photographers.
Simple Techniques with Practical Value
The session focuses on photography concepts that are simple enough to understand and practical enough to use immediately.
Instead of overwhelming participants with complex technical information, the workshop is centred on foundational ideas that can help improve everyday photography.
The goal is to give participants useful knowledge they can continue practising after the session.
Photography Is About What You Love
At its core, the workshop is about learning and knowing about what you love.
Photography can be highly personal. Different people are drawn to different subjects, styles and moments.
Some may enjoy people photography, while others may prefer landscapes, architecture, food, travel or everyday candid moments.
The workshop provides a foundation that participants can adapt to their own interests and photographic preferences.
Build Confidence Behind the Camera
Understanding basic photography concepts can help make the process of taking photographs more deliberate and enjoyable.
Instead of worrying about whether you have the "perfect" camera, you can begin by focusing on what is already available to you and learning how to use it more thoughtfully.
Whether you are using a smartphone or DSLR, the fundamentals remain an important starting point.

A Practical Introduction to Photography
You do not need to become an expert overnight.
Photography is a skill that develops through observation, experimentation and repeated practice.
This workshop gives participants an opportunity to learn the basics and begin applying them to their own photographs.
After understanding framing, angles and composition, you can continue experimenting with different subjects and situations to develop your individual approach.
Experiment with Your Perspective
One of the simplest ways to make photography more interesting is to experiment.
Move closer. Step back. Try another angle. Change what you include in the frame. Pay attention to the background.
These small changes can produce very different results.
The workshop encourages participants to explore these basic ideas and discover what works for their own way of photographing.
Make Your Photographs Stand Out
The workshop is built around the idea of creating photographs that stand out through thoughtful choices.
A visually engaging image does not always depend on complicated equipment. Sometimes, the difference comes from seeing a subject differently and making deliberate choices about framing and perspective.
Learning these basics can help participants approach photography with greater awareness.
Photography as a Creative Skill
Photography combines observation with creative expression.
The camera captures what is in front of you, but the photographer decides what to include, where to stand and when to take the shot.
By learning the fundamentals, participants can begin exploring photography as a creative skill rather than simply a method of recording moments.
Start with the Basics
Every photographer starts somewhere.
Learning basic principles such as framing and angles can provide a strong starting point for anyone interested in photography.
Once these concepts become familiar, participants can continue exploring more advanced techniques and develop their own style over time.
The workshop keeps the focus on those essential building blocks.
