About Event

LIORA: Candle Making for Mental Well-Being – A Mindfulness & Creative Experience

When was the last time you truly slowed down?

In the middle of busy routines, endless to-do lists, and the rush of everyday life, it can be easy to move from one task to another without stopping to notice how you feel. LIORA: Candle Making for Mental Well-Being is designed as a warm, unhurried afternoon where candle making meets mindfulness, sensory awareness, reflection, and human connection.

LIORA invites you to step away from the pace of everyday life for a few hours and spend time doing something simple and intentional. You will work with your hands, notice your senses, create your own scented candle, and make room for gentle reflection along the way.

There is no requirement to know anything about candle making or mindfulness. You simply need to come as you are and be willing to slow down.

What Is LIORA?

LIORA is an experience created around the idea that taking care of yourself does not always have to mean adding another task to your schedule.

Sometimes, it can simply mean pausing long enough to notice that you are here.

The experience brings together creative activity and guided mindfulness in a relaxed setting. Over the course of a few hours, participants will be encouraged to slow down, work with their hands, pay attention to their senses, create something beautiful, and make space for reflection and conversation.

The intention is not to create a formal or clinical environment. Instead, LIORA is designed as an approachable, sensory experience where candle making becomes part of a slower and more present afternoon.

Slow Down, Create and Reconnect

The philosophy behind LIORA is simple:

We will slow down.
We will work with our hands.
We will notice our senses.
We will make something beautiful.
And we will make space for a little reflection along the way.

The experience is designed to move at an unhurried pace, allowing participants to focus on the process rather than rushing toward an outcome.

From guided mindfulness practices to the hands-on candle-making activity, each part of the session encourages participants to be present and engaged with what they are doing.

What to Expect at LIORA
Mindfulness and Body Scan

The experience begins with simple, guided mindfulness and body-scan practices.

These activities are intended to help participants slow down, notice their body, and become more present in the moment. The practices are described as simple and approachable, with no previous meditation experience required.

The beginning of the session provides an opportunity to pause before moving into the creative portion of the experience.

Step-by-Step Candle Making

Participants will then be guided through the process of making their own scented candle.

The candle-making activity includes step-by-step guidance, allowing participants to work with the materials, select their preferred fragrance, and pour their very own hand-poured scented candle.

The focus is on experiencing the process as much as creating the final product.

You get to work with the materials yourself and leave with something that you have made by hand during the session.

A Sensory Experience

Candle making naturally involves several senses, and LIORA uses this process as part of the overall experience.

Participants will engage with:

Fragrance
Texture
Warmth
The physical process of making the candle
The experience of creating something by hand

These sensory elements are presented as small anchors that can help participants bring their attention back to the present moment.

Rather than treating candle making simply as a craft activity, LIORA encourages participants to notice the sensory experience of making something slowly and intentionally.

Reflection and Connection

While the candles set, there will be space for gentle conversation and reflection.

The hosts specifically describe this as not a therapy session and not an environment where participants are expected to share personal information.

There is no forced sharing.

Instead, the session creates an opportunity to slow down, connect with others, and have conversations that everyday schedules do not always leave enough room for.

Participants may come alone, attend with a friend, or meet people they did not already know.

Meet Your Hosts
Dinky Tejwani

Dinky Tejwani is a counselling psychologist and special educator based in Bangalore.

Her work brings together psychology, emotional awareness, and creative everyday practices aimed at making mental well-being feel more accessible.

She enjoys creating spaces where people can slow down, feel safe, and connect with themselves without the pressure of having everything figured out.

For LIORA, Dinky brings her perspective from psychology and emotional awareness into an experience that combines reflection with a simple creative activity.

Tanishqa

Tanishqa is a psychotherapist and researcher at Gargi College, Delhi University.

She is a recipient of the Fortis Bharat Panchal Award for Excellence in Psychological Research, and her work focuses on emotions and subjective well-being within the Indian cultural context.

Alongside her professional interests, Tanishqa also brings her love of candle making and sensory experiences to LIORA.

Her involvement helps bring together the reflective and creative elements of the experience.

Psychology and Candle Making in One Room

Together, Dinky and Tanishqa are bringing psychology and candle making into the same room to create an afternoon that feels less like another obligation on your calendar and more like something you chose to do for yourself.

The event combines:

Guided mindfulness
Body awareness
Sensory exploration
Candle making
Reflection
Conversation
Creative expression

The emphasis is on slowing down and experiencing the moment rather than trying to achieve a particular personal outcome.

A Gentle, Non-Clinical Experience

LIORA is intentionally described as not a therapy session and not a space for forced personal sharing.

The hosts are not promising a life-changing afternoon. Instead, they hope participants leave feeling a little more present, a little more connected, and with something beautiful they made themselves.

This distinction is important: the event is presented as an experiential gathering combining mindfulness and candle making, rather than as clinical treatment, therapy, or a substitute for professional mental-health care.

Who Can Attend?

LIORA is designed for anyone who wants to step away from a busy routine and spend a few hours slowing down, creating, and connecting.

You can:

Come alone: You do not need to bring someone with you.

Bring a friend: Attend together and share the experience.

Meet someone new: The event creates space for conversation and connection with people outside your existing circle.

No prior experience in candle making or mindfulness is required.

There is no need to arrive with a particular level of knowledge or experience. The invitation is simply to come as you are.

Limited Seats for an Intentional Experience

Seats for LIORA are limited in order to keep the experience small and intentional.

The intimate format supports the workshop's emphasis on hands-on candle making, guided practices, conversation, and reflection.

Participants are encouraged to approach the afternoon at an unhurried pace and enjoy the experience for what it is.

Why Candle Making?

Candle making gives participants an opportunity to work with their hands and engage with fragrance, texture, warmth, and the process of creating something from materials.

Within LIORA, this creative activity becomes more than simply making a candle. It forms the practical centre of an experience that also includes mindfulness, body awareness, sensory attention, reflection, and connection.

The result is both experiential and tangible: participants spend time slowing down and also leave with a scented candle they have made themselves.
