Kalighat paintings originated in 19th-century Kolkata during the colonial period, developing around the famous Kalighat Temple, dedicated to Goddess Kali.

Located near the banks of the Hooghly River and the popular Kalighat Temple, the area attracted pilgrims, local visitors and people from abroad. This created a thriving audience for the distinctive artworks produced by local artists.

All essential workshop materials will be supplied by the host. Those who prefer to use their own materials may bring them, and an examination pad or paper board can be carried for additional support while creating the artwork.
