About Event

STEM Dasara Holiday Camp 2026 – 5-Day Creative Learning Camp for Children
About the Event

Make the Dasara holidays more creative, curious and hands-on with a 5-day STEM Dasara Holiday Camp at Parsec, Jayanagar, Bengaluru.

Running from 17 October to 21 October 2026, the camp brings together STEM learning, storytelling, toy making, puppetry, mechanical design, research and creative making in an immersive holiday experience for children.

The camp is designed around teamwork and hands-on problem solving. Children will work in small teams, take a story as their starting point and then transform that story into a complete scene.

Each team will create the figures required by its story, build a set, dress and finish the characters, document the figures they make and compose the completed scene for an audience. As part of the project, every team will also build at least one moving figure, powered by a mechanism that the children themselves will design, build and test.

The experience combines imagination with practical making. Children are encouraged not only to create, but also to research, experiment, document their work, test their ideas and collaborate with their teammates.

Adding another dimension to the camp, four working makers from different creative fields will join the children during the week:

A toy maker
A storyteller
An archivist
A puppeteer

Children will have the opportunity to interact with these practitioners and ask questions about their work and creative processes.

The camp culminates in a special final-day presentation where all the completed scenes come together into one tiered Gombe Habba, with every team presenting its story.

Five days. One story at a time. Build, design, research, experiment and bring your imagination to life.

Learn Through Making

The camp takes a hands-on approach to learning.

Rather than learning concepts only through explanations or worksheets, children are given an opportunity to design, build, test and refine their own creations.

The process encourages children to think about how an idea can move from a story or concept into something physical.

They will work with their teammates to make figures, construct a scene, create mechanisms and prepare their work for presentation.

This approach combines creativity with practical problem-solving.

Start With a Story

Every team begins with a story.

The story becomes the foundation for the scene the children will eventually create.

Teams will explore the story, research it and determine what figures, objects and setting are needed to represent it.

Instead of creating isolated craft objects, children are encouraged to think about how individual elements work together to communicate a complete narrative.

This gives the making process a clear purpose: every figure and every part of the set contributes to telling the team's story.

Build a Complete Scene

Once the story has been selected and explored, each team works towards creating a complete scene.

Children will:

Create figures required by the story
Build a set for the characters
Arrange the figures within the scene
Dress and finish the cast
Compose the scene for an audience
Document the figures they create
Develop at least one moving figure

The project therefore combines art, storytelling, design, engineering and documentation.

Design and Build a Moving Figure

One of the most distinctive elements of the camp is the creation of a moving figure.

Each team will build at least one figure that is driven by a mechanism.

Importantly, the children are not simply given a completed mechanism. They are expected to design, build and test the mechanism themselves.

This creates an opportunity to explore how mechanical ideas can be translated into movement.

Children can experiment with their designs, observe how the mechanism behaves and make changes as they work towards a functioning moving figure.

The activity brings STEM concepts into a creative storytelling environment.

Design, Build and Test

The moving figure project follows a practical design process.

Design

Children think about how their figure should move and what type of mechanism could create that movement.

Build

They turn their ideas into a physical mechanism and integrate it into the figure.

Test

The mechanism is tested to see whether it produces the intended movement.

Improve

Through experimentation, children can learn from what works and what does not.

This approach encourages curiosity, iteration and problem-solving rather than expecting the first attempt to be perfect.

Research Behind the Story

The camp also includes a research component.

Teams will research the story they are staging, giving the project an educational dimension beyond craft and construction.

Research can help children understand the context of their chosen story and make more informed decisions about how they represent it visually.

The process connects research with creative output, allowing children to see how information can influence design and storytelling.

Build Frames and Armatures

Creating figures requires more than adding surface details.

Children will also work on frames and armatures as part of building their characters.

These structural elements provide a foundation for the figures and introduce children to the idea that objects often need an internal structure before they can be finished aesthetically.

Working with frames and armatures adds another practical making skill to the camp.

Dress and Finish the Cast

Once the structural elements are developed, the children will work on the appearance of their characters.

They will dress and finish the cast, considering the details needed to make the figures fit their story.

This stage brings together construction and visual design.

Children can see how finishing details contribute to character, storytelling and the overall appearance of the scene.

Document Every Figure

The camp also introduces an element of archiving and documentation.

Each team will keep a record of every figure they make.

Documentation encourages children to think about their work not just as something they build, but as something that can be recorded, organised and remembered.

This connects directly with the presence of an archivist during the camp and adds another layer to the creative process.

Compose the Scene for an Audience

The completed figures need to work together as a scene.

Teams will therefore think about how to compose their scene for an audience.

This involves considering how the characters are positioned, how the setting supports the story and how viewers will understand what is being presented.

The activity encourages children to think like storytellers, designers and performers at the same time.

Meet Working Makers

Four working makers will join the camp during the week, offering children an opportunity to interact with people who work in different creative fields.

Toy Maker

A toy maker brings practical experience of designing and creating objects intended to engage people through play.

Storyteller

A storyteller can help children think about how narratives are structured and communicated.

Archivist

An archivist introduces children to the importance of recording, preserving and organising creative work.

Puppeteer

A puppeteer brings insight into character movement, performance and storytelling through figures.

Children will have the opportunity to question all four makers, making the interaction an active part of the learning experience.

A Multi-Disciplinary Learning Experience

The camp brings several disciplines together within one project.

Children can explore:

STEM and mechanical thinking
Storytelling
Research
Toy making
Puppetry
Creative design
Craft and construction
Documentation
Teamwork
Presentation

The combination makes the camp different from a conventional holiday activity because children are encouraged to move between creative and analytical ways of thinking.

Teamwork and Collaboration

Children will work in small teams throughout the camp.

Working as a team means that participants can contribute different ideas and skills to a shared project.

They will need to discuss their story, divide tasks, make creative decisions and bring separate pieces together into one finished scene.

The collaborative format also introduces children to the practical realities of creating something together.

Learn Through Questions

The presence of working makers creates opportunities for children to ask questions directly.

Rather than simply observing experts, children can engage with them and learn more about how different creative professions work.

Questioning can also encourage children to think more deeply about their own projects and explore possibilities they may not have considered.

The camp therefore treats curiosity as an important part of the learning experience.

The Final Gombe Habba

The culmination of the five-day camp takes place on the final day.

Every team's completed scene comes together into one tiered Gombe Habba.

Gombe Habba is a traditional display associated with the Dasara season, and the camp uses this format as the setting for the children's completed creative work.

Each team will have the opportunity to tell its story as part of the final presentation.

This gives the project a clear conclusion and allows children to share what they have created with an audience.

From Story to Gombe Habba

The camp follows a creative journey:

Story → Research → Design → Build → Test → Finish → Document → Compose → Present

Children begin with an idea and gradually transform it into a physical scene.

By the final day, the individual team projects become part of a larger collective Gombe Habba.

This structure gives the five-day experience a strong sense of progression and purpose.

Why Join the STEM Dasara Camp?
Combine STEM With Creativity

Children can explore mechanical design alongside storytelling, craft and artistic expression.

Learn Through Real Projects

Instead of only discussing concepts, participants apply ideas by building and testing their own creations.

Develop Teamwork

Small-team projects encourage collaboration, communication and shared problem-solving.

Explore Different Creative Professions

Children interact with working makers from toy making, storytelling, archiving and puppetry.

Build Confidence Through Making

Completing a project from an initial story to a final presentation can give children a sense of achievement.

Experience Gombe Habba

The final presentation connects the children's work with the festive tradition of Gombe Habba.

A Holiday Camp Built Around Curiosity

The Dasara holidays provide an opportunity for children to step away from their regular classroom routines and explore learning in a different way.

This camp creates that space through a combination of making, experimentation and storytelling.

Children are encouraged to ask questions, try ideas, test mechanisms and work with others.

The goal is not simply to complete a craft project, but to understand how an idea can become a finished creation through a series of decisions and experiments.

A Creative STEM Experience

STEM learning is often associated with science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

This camp adds a strong creative component by placing those ideas within storytelling and physical making.

A moving figure, for example, becomes both a mechanical challenge and part of a story.

The children therefore have to think about both how something works and why it belongs in the scene.

This combination encourages a broader approach to problem-solving.

A Camp for Young Makers

The project gives children an opportunity to become makers themselves.

They are not simply watching demonstrations or following a predetermined craft template.

They are expected to make decisions, construct objects, develop mechanisms, test ideas and contribute to a shared final presentation.

The experience can encourage children to see themselves as capable of building and creating things from their own ideas.

Important Lunch and Snack Requirement

Children attending the camp must bring their own lunch and snack boxes.

Parents and guardians should ensure that children arrive prepared with their lunch and snacks for the day's session.

The supplied event information does not specify any meal provision by the organiser.
